Industrial Radiography RSO Course

We are pleased to introduce a new course that we have added to our lineup for training at IR: the Industrial Radiography RSO Course.

The course, which will be held at our Edmonton location on April 27 to 30, 2020, is for everyone who is or would like to become a radiation safety officer (RSO) for industrial radiography licenses issued by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). Participants will receive in-depth and
comprehensive instruction on the practical and technical elements required to run an effective radiation protection program.

This course meets the RSO training and continuing education requirements of the CNSC document entitled REGDOC-1.6.2, Developing and Implementing an Effective Radiation Protection Program for Nuclear Substances and Radiation Devices Licences.

Main topics for the RSO course include legislative requirements, radiation protection review, radiation safety management systems, operations, and administration. For more information and specifics on the curriculum, as well as registration forms, click through to our website.

About the Instructor

The instructor for the Industrial Radiography RSO course at IR is David Paynter, B.Sc., CRSP, from Paynter Solutions. Dave has over ten years of experience with radiation safety and regulations, and is a holder of Canadian Registered Safety Professional certification. Before moving into the private sector in 2013, Dave worked for several years as a CNSC inspector and a Class 7 TDG inspector. He has first-hand experience in a safety role having worked as the RSO for one of the largest industrial radiography licences in Canada from 2013 to 2019. We are very pleased to be able to bring Dave and the expertise he has to share to IR.

Applicants for the Industrial Radiography RSO Course at IR are encouraged to seek funding for the course through the Canada-Alberta Job Grant. If eligible, an employer may receive 70% coverage of training costs for existing employees and 100% of training cost for qualifying new employees. Several other provinces have a similar grant available including British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario and Prince Edward Island.
